STRUTHERS - Theresa M. Zappia died May 12, 2014, at Assumption Village.
Mrs. Zappia was born March 23, 1923, in Hillsville, Pa., a daughter of Louis and Angelica Yeropoli Polito.
She was a graduate of Bessemer High School and worked as a sales clerk for Livingston's and then Lane Bryant in the Southern Park Mall, retiring at the age of 80. She was a member of the Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas.
Theresa was a very caring, compassionate, and giving person who enjoyed spending time with her family, mainly around the holidays. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her wedding soup and pizzells.
Theresa also enjoyed going to Novena's on Monday nights.
Her husband, Bruno Zappia, whom she married May 5, 1944, died Dec. 21, 1996.
She is survived by two daughters, Theresa (Lino) Pellegrini of Poland and Angelica (James) Barber of Poland; three grandchildren, Joseph (Lisa) Pellegrini of Medina and their children, Julian and Noah Pellegrini, Pamela Pellegrini of Poland, and James (Danielle) Barber of Forest Dale, Mass., and their daughter, Capri Angelica Barber; a sister-in-law, Connie Polito of Poland; brothers-in-law, Alex Casalini, Arthur Stevens, and Sam Peloza; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Theresa was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony and Nick Polito; and a sister, Florence Rich.
A prayer service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas at 11 a.m.
Entombment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
Friends and family will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at Assumption Village special care unit and activity staff; as well as the Hospice of Valley for their excellent care.
