New Middletown - T. Grant Scott, 88, died Sunday evening, January 15, 2012 at Hampton Woods Nursing Center.
Mr. Scott was born October 24, 1923 in Youngstown, the son of the late Thomas and Minerva Frye Scott. He lived in Youngstown until moving to New Middletown in 1963.
A 1942 graduate of East High School, Mr. Scott first worked for Isaly Dairy doing home deliveries from 1945 to 1954 and then for the Ohio Turnpike for two years. In 1956, he began working as a letter carrier for theYoungstown Post Office, working out of the Boardman Station, retiring in 1988 after 32 years of service.
He was a member of Church of the Rock in Poland, and he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and his daily visits at the nursing home with his "granddog", Stella.
He leaves his wife, the former Mary Jane Prosser, whom he married November 5, 1943; three daughters, Judith DiRenzo (Todd Johnson) of Poland, Diane (Lou) Davis of Lawrenceville, GA, and Nancy (John) Kennedy of New Middletown; a son, Thomas "Buster" (Jane) Scott of New Middletown; sister, Laura Mae (Jerry) Weaver of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Johnny Kennedy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Rock, with Pastor Reid Lamport officiating. Private interment will take place at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Middletown.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Scott's name to Church of the Rock, 7025 Luteran Lane, Poland, Ohio 44514 or to the Activities Department at Hampton Woods Nursing Center, 1525 E. Western Reserve Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
