Sylvia C. Fumi

August 26, 1935 — February 24, 2024

Canfield

Sylvia Fumi, 88,  passed away peacefully in her home on February 24.

Sylvia was born on August 26, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Alliance, Ohio in 1949.

After attending Mount Union College,  she worked at Alliance City Hospital where she met the love of her life, Rocco (Rocky) Fumi. They married in 1961 and spent almost 63 wonderful years together. Rocky always affectionately referred to Sylvia as "his Bride."

They made their home in Canfield where they raised three children. There was no doubt that Sylvia devoted her life to her family. Sylvia was best known for her baking and cooking. She especially loved to bake Christmas cookies and Easter bread for family and friends. She also loved being at Buckeye Pharmacy working alongside Rocky.

Over the years, Sylvia was a member of the Kiwaniqueens, St. Michael’s Altar Guild, and The St. Michael’s Blessing of the Easter baskets.

Sylvia had a very close connection with her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Kaminiski Zelasko.

Left to cherish her memory and carry her love with them is her loving husband, Rocky; children, Rocco Jr. of Hilliard, David (Rusty) of Upper Arlington and Lynette from Canfield; grandchildren, Ryan, Adam, and Lauren; brother, Joseph (Carol) Zelasko from Alliance, with whom she had a very special bond; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

The family would like to thank the Ohio Living Hospice group of Fran, Vance, Tammy G., Pastor Dan T., Keri, Irene and everyone else on Sylvia’s team.

The family would also like to give a heartfelt thank you to Kathy Jo McPhee and Bonnie McCartney who helped take care of Sylvia over the past 10 years with so much love and compassion.

A very special thank you to Sylvia’s niece, Valerie Sandora, for everything she has done and for being with and supporting the family on Sylvia’s final days.

Finally, thank you to Karyn Frederick, Lori Baird, Natalie Manley, and Dina Eberth for everything they have done for the family.

A private graveside service with family will be held at Dean Hill Cemetery.

A memorial service for Sylvia will be held at a later date and will be announced to family and friends.

Donations can be made in Sylvia's memory to Ohio Living Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
