Suzanne Gustafan Berry, 90, passed away on May 18, 2019 at Assumption Village following a brief illness.
Suzanne was born September 5, 1928 in Campbell, Ohio, the daughter of Stephen and Suzanne Andrews Gustafan. She graduated from Campbell Memorial High School working in the blouse department at Strouss’ Department Store until she married her husband of 52 years, Frank, and moved to Boardman, Ohio where they made their home and raised four children.
She was very active in the Boardman PTA and an avid supporter of all her children's school activities and sports. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. In the span of her later career, she was a meat wrapper, delicatessen manager, and area district manager with Ziegler’s Market, Valu King, and Giant Eagle.
Suzanne was an excellent cook, a long-time bridge club member, a crossword and jigsaw puzzle enthusiast, an opera fan, and a beloved parent, grandparent and great-grandparent.
She is survived by her daughter Laura (Stephen) Nafz of Columbus; three sons, Frank (Cheryl) Berry of Columbus, Stephen (Becky) Berry of Boardman and Michael (Laura) Berry of Youngstown; grandchildren Mary Sue (Ryan) Green of Charlotte, North Carolina and Stephanie Berry of Austin, Texas; and great granddaughter Everleigh Mae Green; along with many loved nieces and nephews.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Berry, Jr.; her parents; grandson Michael S. Berry; brothers Paul (Gloria) Gustafan and Joseph (Erica) Gustafan; and sisters Helene (Frank) Ewing, Anne (William) Mahoney, and Margaret (Wayne) Finney.
To honor her wishes, there will be no burial or calling hours. A brief memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 12:00 pm at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street in Boardman.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made to the Youngstown Hospice of the Valley, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice in Suzanne’s name.
The family would like to thank all the nurses, aides, and staff on the 4 South Unit of Mercy Hospital in Boardman as well as the nurses and staff at Assumption Village Hospice for the kind and compassionate care provided to Suzanne.
