Steven G. Mikus, 74 Struthers- Steven G. Mikus, 74, of 46 Renee Drive died of cancer Thursday afternoon at his residence. Mr. Mikus was born December 26, 1929, in Youngstown, a son of Savo and Anna Karas Mikus. He was raised in Hubbard and lived most of his life in Struthers. He was a United States Army veteran and served from 1951 to 1953, including sixteen months in Korea during the Korean war. He was awarded two Bronze Stars. After completion of his Military term he was employed at Truscon Steel for seven years. In 1957 he was appointed to the Struthers Police Department and served for thirty-three years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and served four terms as President and six terms as Secretary Treasurer. He retired from the Police Department in 1990 with the rank of Captain. He was a life member of the Crime Clinic of Greater Youngstown and served as President in 1982 and 1983 and continued to serve on the Board of Trusteeâa�a��s. He was a member of the Youngstown Association of Retired Firefighters, Policemen and Widows, and the State Association of Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio, Inc. He was a member of the Struthers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3538, Poland Lodge #766 F&AM, 32nd degree Mason of the Valley of Scottish Rite, Youngstown, and the ROMEOS. Mr. Mikus was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers where he served as an usher for several years. Besides his wife the former Jean Zupko, whom he married September 25, 1964 he leaves two sons, Daniel (Dianne) Mikus of Boardman, Marc (Tracie) Mikus of Howland; two daughters. Diane Knicely of Youngstown and Gigi Potts of Struthers; one brother Col. Ret. Nicholas M. Mikus of Florissant, MO.; two sisters, Barbara Naples of Hubbard and Rose Rook of Boardman; three grandsons, Daniel Joseph Mikus of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., John Abraham Knicely and Daniel James Knicely both of Youngstown; five granddaughters, Samantha Potts of Struthers and Alexis Mikus of Howland, Teresa Clark, Erica Terrago and Rebecka Knicely all of Youngstown and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, one sister, Ann Marie Wittenauer preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Monday, 10:00 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church. Friends may call Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
