Struthers - Steve A. Zentko, 82 of Struthers, died early Thursday morning at his residence.
Steve was born July 27, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of Martin and Anna Pukansky Zentko.
A life-long resident of Struthers, Steve attended Struthers High School. He worked at Truscon Steel for 12 years and then as a machine assembler for McKay Machine Shop, later Wean United for 30 years, retiring in 1990. A United States Army Veteran, Steve served during the Korean Conflict.
Steve was a dedicated member of Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Church in Struthers. He served as Church Councilman, the Infant Jesus of Prague, was a member of the Men's Club, participated every Thursday making pirohy for the church, and would take vacation time to work the former annual festival. Steve was an avid bowler and loved polka music and dancing.
A woodworking craftsman, Steve built his own home and many furniture pieces in his home. Every year he entered items in the Canfield Fair and won blue ribbons. He enjoyed making and giving to family and friends, jewelry boxes and crucifixes and much of his craftsmanship can be seen throughout Holy Trinity Church. Steve had a gift at creating ways to repair anything and was always up to the challenge. Addition to his woodworking, Steve loved taking care of his lawn and his roses.
His wife of 59 years, the former Florence Landolfi, whom he married November 11, 1950, died April 4, 2010; he leaves three children, Janice (James) Croley of Bonita Springs, FL, Stephen (Beverly) Zentko of Poland, and Donna (Mark) Dyll of Lewis Center, OH; one brother, Frank Zentko of Germany; seven grandchildren, Anna (Abhi) Ghosh of San Francisco, CA, Ricky (Allison) Leone of Cape Coral, FL, Stephanie (Steven) Rozman of Palm Beach, FL, April Zentko of Jupiter, Fl., Shawn Zentko of Poland, and Mackenzie and Madison Dyll of Lewis Center; and two great-granddaughters, Mia Rozman and Somashri Ghosh.
Besides his parents and wife, Steve was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Mann, Elizabeth Sonoga, and Helen Yash; and infant brother, Paul Zentko.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 10:00 AM at Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Church with Fr. Bernard Gaeta officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
Friends will be received Sunday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home Poland, where a Prayer Service will be held Monday at 9:15 AM.
