Steve Planey

POLAND - Steve Planey, 82 of Poland, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer. His daughter Susan was with him at his bedside.
He was born in Youngstown on October 13, 1928 the son of Joseph and Anna Kraynak Planey.
Mr. Planey was a graduate of Scienceville High School, and a ling time member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, where he was an usher for Sunday services for many years. He was a member of the Men's Club where he was named "man of the year"; He also was a member of the Marian Council Knights of Columbus. During the war he served with the Army in Europe. Mr. Planey was employed by Campbell Electric and Stanton Electric. Upon his retirement he enjoyed playing cards and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Gbur whom he married on September 19, 1953, a daughter, Susan (Barry) VanWye of Bonita Springs Fl., a son, Steve (Janet) Planey of Canfield, 2 grandsons, Cory VanWye with the U.S. Air Force in Germany and Kyle VanWye of Bonita Springs, Fl.; a sister Anne Planey of Coitsville. His grandsons were the joy of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Michael and Joseph Planey and a sister, Mary Kaschak.
Family and friends will be received Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 at the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 1898 Wilson Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44506. where the Panachida will be at 9:30 am., and the Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at 11:00 am, with Father David Shortt as the celebrant.
Interment will take place at St. Nicholas Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. P. Y. Solanki and his staff along with the dedicated professionals at the Youngstown Veterans Clinic on Belmont Avenue for their kind and compassionate care.
