Canfield - Stephen Mark Vidman, 81, died Tuesday afternoon, September 13, 2016 at Hospice of the Valley's Hospice House.
Mr. Vidman was born November 19, 1934 in Struthers, a son of Stephen and Mary Kopkash Vidman.
He was a 1953 graduate of Struthers High School, attended Youngstown College for two years, and went on to Ohio Northern University and received his pharmaceutical degree in 1959. Mr. Vidman began his career as a pharmacist first working for Gray Drugs and then Peoples. He later became co-owner and operated Brown's Drug Store on the East Side of Youngstown for 28 years before selling the business to Revco which later became CVS.
He was a member of St. Michael Parish in Canfield and attended St. Paul Monastery in Ellsworth. He was also a member the Kiwanis of the East Side, the Western Reserve Boosters, and the Eastern Ohio Pharmaceutical Association, where he served as a past president for all three organizations.
Mr. Vidman loved family vacations and gatherings at the holidays, playing bocce at St. Anthony's and the Arco and Pacentrano Clubs, and his monthly breakfasts with classmates. He also had a love for photography and often photographed the Western Reserve sporting events and gave them to the Canfield Courier newspaper.
He is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine Swader, whom he married August 31, 1957; son, Stephen (Aixsa) Vidman of McDonald; four daughters, Mary Ann (Keith) Bacon of Columbia, SC, Susan Grist of Leesburg, VA, Mikki (John) Hawkins of Raleigh, NC, and Betsy Pallo of Boardman; brother, John (Sharon) Vidman of Struthers; sister, Rita Stahl of Ada, OH; sister-in-law, Peggy Vidman of Boardman; twelve grandchildren, Leah (Patrick) Anderson, Stephen (Jaclyn) Bacon, Brett Grist, Lauren (Paul) Shockley, Nathan Grist, Spencer, Grayson, and Chandler Hawkins, Morgan Pallo, Taylor (Steve) Powell, and Stephen and Celina Vidman; and great-grandchild, James Anderson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Vidman and a brother-in-law, Jack Stahl.
A prayer service will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael Parish on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Terry Hazel officiating. Interment will be at Ellsworth Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Although flowers are beautiful, the family suggests that memorial gifts take the form of contributions in Mr. Vidman's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
