Stephen A. Martinko, 95
POLAND - Stephen A. Martinko, 95, died Dec. 28, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Martinko was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Youngstown, a son of Martin and Anna Toman Martinko.
He was a 1937 East High School graduate and attended Youngstown College. Steve worked in the billing department at Youngstown Sheet and Tube (LTV) for over 40 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church. He enjoyed gardening and was a fabulous dancer. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Steve was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, stationed in North Africa and Italy.
He is survived by his wife, the former Helen B. Puhala, whom he married Oct. 11, 1952; three daughters, Janet (Steve) Planey of Canfield, Margie (Jeff) Proch of Canfield, and Karen (Dave) Lehtinen of Avon Lake; a son, Steve (Teresa) Martinko of Canfield; and six grandchildren, Jonathan Proch of Akron, Kathryn Proch of Canfield, Megan Martinko of Canfield, Sara Martinko of Canfield, David Lehtinen of Avon Lake, and Lily Lehtinen of Avon Lake.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Martin, John, Joseph, Frank, and Leonard Martinko; and three sisters, Anna Martinko, Mary Tkach, and Catherine Handel.
Private services will be held on Tuesday.
Interment will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
