Struthers - Stephen A Guerriero, 84, of Struthers, died Tuesday afternoon, March 10, 2015 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Steve was born November 17, 1930 in Youngstown, a son of Angelo and Anna Delmark Guerriero.
Raised in Austintown, Steve was a graduate of Fitch High School, Class of 1948 and attended Newberry College in South Carolina on a football scholarship. He returned to the area and attended Kent State University.
A United States Army Veteran, Steve served stateside during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954.
Steve worked at Pyramid Motors in Poland before taking ownership of Men-Guer Chrysler Plymouth in Struthers for 30 years. He was a member of the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio and Ohio Automobile Dealers Association.
Steve was a former member of the Board of Directors of CASTLO Industrial Park, a member and Past President of Struthers Rotary Club where he was honored to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow; and was an active member of the former Struthers Business Association.
A football fan of Springfield Tigers and a forever football fan of YSU, Steve was a devoted supporter of YSU Athletics and a member of the YSU Penguin Club. Steve was also a competitive bocce player. Steve's passion for gardening developed into a labor of love after his retirement. He spent countless hours at his farm growing vegetables and sharing his harvest with family and friends.
Steve was a hard working man, a loving and faithful husband, and respected father of seven, who was the authority with a tender heart. Grandpa to sixteen, whose fondest memories will be of time spent on his farm. A devoted friend and charismatic individual, he was totally entertaining, often inspiring, and always a man of his words. His legacy is to live life to the fullest, strive for success, and "GID- Get It Done!"
Steve leaves his wife, the former Kathleen Sheldon, whom he married October 24, 1970; six sons, Mark (Marsha) Guerriero of Carmel, IN., Patrick (Deirdre) Guerriero of Shelby, NC., Gregory (Laura) Guerriero of Concord, NC., Stephen (Karen) Guerriero of Struthers, Michael (Stacy) Guerriero of Kannapolis, NC., and Sean (Gina) Guerriero of Boardman; one daughter, Kathleen (John) Fabian of Austintown; one sister, Maryanne (Sam) Ascione of New Castle, PA; sixteen grandchildren, Matthew (Madison), Lauren, Patrick, Nicholas, Zachary, Sophia, Lucas, Andrew, Alysia, Elizabeth, Emily, Nicole, Anna, Mia, Sean, and Ally.
Besides his parents, Steve was preceded in death by one brother, Jerome Guerriero; and his nephew, Anthony Ascione.
Celebrate the life of an ordinary man, who did extraordinary things.
Friends will be received Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman
A Prayer Service will be held Saturday at 9:15 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Christ Our Savior Parish at Saint Nicholas Church, Struthers at 10:00 AM with Father Philip Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery, Poland.
The family is comforted by the fact that he had the best care possible from his doctors, Scott Tofil, MD, Antoine Chahine, MD, Richard Memo, MD, and Stephen Evan, MD. Thankful for the compassionate care he received from the Cancer Center and Hospice of the Valley, and forever grateful for the love and support of his many friends and neighbors.
