Poland -Stephen John Demeny, 92, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at Park Vista. Mr. Demeny was born May 20, 1916 in Poland, a son of Stephen J. and Elizabeth Toth Demeny. A 1934 graduate of Springfield High School, he worked as a stationary engineer for the former Youngstown Sheet and Tube, now the Lykes, for over 30 years, retiring in 1977. Mr. Demeny loved reading his Bible and was a devout Christian. He ushered for 19 years for the Kathryn Kuhlman ministries and also belonged to her men¹s chorus. He was a former member of the Pleasant Valley Church in Niles, and he was a current member of the Church of the Rock in Poland. Mr. Demeny loved gardening, farming, enjoyed shopping and traveling, especially to Niagara Falls. When his daughters lived in Los Angeles, he and his wife made 42 trips to visit with his daughters. He also was a member of the Republican Party. His wife, the former Jolanda I. Ambrusko, whom he married May 21, 1939, died June 30, 2002. He is survived by two daughters, Joan Demeny and Linda Demeny, both of Poland; a cousin, Henry Demeny; two nephews; and three nieces. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Demeny. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
