Stephen Gregory "Moose" Almasy

Poland - Stephen Gregory "Moose" Almasy, 78, of Poland, died Saturday afternoon, March 19, 2016 at his residence. Stephen, affectionately known as Moose, was born February 9, 1938 in Struthers, a son of Stephen and Anna Ceremuga Almasy.

Raised in Struthers, Moose was a graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1956. From 1957 until 1961 Moose served in the United States Army. Returning to the area he worked at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube from 1962 until 1970. In 1970 Moose acquired the Lavilla Bar & Restaurant, a favorite gathering spot for the Struthers community. Uncle Moose, as he was known to his patrons, retired in 2006 after 36 years of ownership.

Moose enjoyed golfing with his best friend Richie. His favorite pastime was vacationing with his family in Siesta Key and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. An avid sports fan, Moose loved the Cleveland Indians and, until three years ago, the Cleveland Browns.

Moose was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Church.

Moose is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sally Constantino, whom he married October 3, 1963; daughter, Dionne (Bob) Roberts of Canfield; son, Kevin Almasy of Poland; four grandchildren, Sterling Roberts, Santino, Rocco, and Gia Almasy; sister Mary Neichiporchick of New Middletown; sister-in-law, Josephine "JoJo" (Ronnie) Carabbia of Poland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Moose was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Almasy; and sisters, Joan Koren and Annie Almasy.

A Prayer services will be held Wednesday, 9:45 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church at 10:30 AM with Fr. Bernard Bonnot officiating. Entombment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
