CANFIELD - Stanley Reid Huber, 89 of Canfield, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Briarfield Manor in Austintown
Mr. Huber was born April 5, 1922 in Youngstown, a son of Herman and Anna Grenwald Huber.
He was a graduate South High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Northern France, the Rhineland and in Central Europe. Mr. Huber received the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service medal with 3 bronze stars. Upon his return from WW II, he worked for Youngstown Steel door for 38 years as a welder, retiring in 1983. Mr. Huber was a member of the American Legion in Canfield, the VFW. He spent 30 years at the Canfield Base Ball Club, where the batting barn was named after him. Mr. Huber enjoyed bowling, where he bowled in the Mahoning County Veterans League, and the Youngstown Steel Door League, where he served both as the secretery, and fishing. He was an avid Youngstown State University football and basketball fan. He was a member of the YSU Penguin Club and the Court Side Coaches. He also enjoyed traveling to California and Virginia Beach.
His wife the former Goldie Kegarice whom he married in 1943, died August 11, 1993.
He leaves his daughter, Janice (John) Grover of Pacheco, CA; a son, Warren (Marlene Willmitch) Huber of Canfield, a sister, Virginia Polk of Peoria, AZ; a brother, Rollin Huber of Ocean Park, WA; two grandchildren - Pamela (Shawn) Cullen of Rocklin, CA., and Denise Slater of Richmond, CA; and one great-grandchild - Jessica Cullen.
Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Cunning and a brother, Luther Huber.
There will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the Lake Park Cemetery.
The Huber family would like to thank all the wonderful nurses and staff of the Briarfield Manor, for all of their love and care given to Stanley.
