Shirley M. Walkama

Lowellville - Shirley M. Walkama, 87, of Lowellville, died Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Hospice House.

Mrs. Walkama was born May 29, 1923 in Struthers, a daughter of Charles and Helen Smiley Walter.

She was a graduate of Struthers High School and was a homemaker. Mrs. Walkama was a member of Lowellville Christian Church, a former member of the Eastern Star, and was once active in the former Cafaro Memorial Guild. She enjoyed spending time with her family, embroidery, and needlework.

Her husband, Jacob E. Walkama, whom she married June 25, 1941, died March 27, 1989. She leaves her three daughters, Karen (Bill) Baker of Forest, VA, Susan (Larry) McNab of Leetonia, and Lori (Wayne) Tibbits of Ellsworth; sister, Hope Sokol of Struthers; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward Walkama; sister, Lena Grinnen; and brother, Leroy McLure.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lowellville Cemetery.

The family requests that memorail tributes take the form of contributions in Mrs. Walkama's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
