Struthers - Shirley Margaret Leck, 82, of Struthers, passed away Wednesday morning, August 23, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born February 15, 1935 in Struthers. She is the eighth born child of George and Lucille Miller Denmeade. Shirley was proud that she returned to her birth home to raise her family, a home where wonderful memories were made, both old and new, and where she wanted to be when she passed away.
A life-long resident of Struthers, Shirley attended Struthers High School and worked as a waitress at People's Drugstore in Youngstown and Gray's Drugstore in Struthers. Most recently, Shirley worked at the Becker Funeral Homes as a Hostess for the Family Centers.
Shirley was a member of the former Struthers Presbyterian Church now known as the Struthers Parkside Church where she was a Deacon, a member of the Quilters and volunteered for the church's Swiss Steak Dinner. As a homemaker, Shirley was also active in the Struthers PTA, and Struthers Band Boosters where she worked the cotton candy stand at the Struthers concessions for the former annual Grotto Circus held at the Struthers Field House. For many years, Shirley donated her time serving lunch for the weekly meetings of the Struthers Rotary. She especially enjoyed serving spaghetti to over 200 students at the annual Rotary Christmas Party for special needs students in the Mahoning County Schools.
She loved knitting, crocheting and bowling at the Monday Night Women's league at the Struthers Bowladrome, but her greatest love was spending time with her family. Shirley will be remembered for her kindness and love for people.
Shirley leaves her husband and best friend of 61 years, William Leck, whom she married September 24, 1955; three daughters, Deborah Bloomberg of Struthers, Bonnie Leck of Poland, and Kimberly (Troy) Fronzaglio of Huron; four grandchildren, Erin (Bob) Carcelli of Struthers, Rachel (Ian) Pethtel of Struthers, and Lindsay and Jared Fronzaglio of Huron; and three great-grandchildren, Robert, Angelina and Alyssa Carcelli; three brothers, Robert (Fran) Denmeade of Ca., Donald (Doris) Denmeade of New Middletown and Raymond (Judy) Denmeade of Struthers; and one sister, Harriet Wilson of Poland.

Friends will be received Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor James Berkebile officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Poland Family Center.
