Shirley L. Fender, 91
POLAND - Shirley L. Fender, 91, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born on May 13, 1923, in Columbus and graduated from South High School in 1941.
She worked in the clerical office at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, where she met her husband, William Fender. They were married in 1947. Later she worked at American Paper Products, retiring in 1984 to lovingly babysit two of her grandchildren.
Shirley was a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church for the past 50 years.
She was an avid sports lover, especially cheering for the Poland Bulldogs and Springfield Tigers basketball teams. She and her friends shared many happy hours walking the mall, line dancing, and leisurely sipping coffee wherever and whenever.
Shirley's husband, Williams E. Fender, died in May 1974. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Jackie Daley and Bobbie Carroll, and her brother, Chuck Stroup.
She will be dearly missed by her two sons, Tom (Holly) Fender of Poland and William (Kris) Fender of Highlands Ranch, Colo; four grandchildren, Eric (Carolyn) Fender, Chad Fender, Anne (Don) Williams, and Tom Fender; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Archer Williams. She also leaves behind a sister, Lorraine Liposchak.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May, 21, 2014, at the Poland Presbyterian Church.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cunningham Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, 270 N. Main St., and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
