Shirley J. Bastide

New Castle, PA - Shirley J. Bastide, 80, formerly of West Middlesex, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.

Shirley, affectionately known by many as "Gram" was born on October 27, 1937 in Farrell, PA, a daughter of Harold and Hilda (Burdett) Heckathorn.

Shirley was a graduate of West Middlesex High School and received her registered nursing degree from Jameson School of Nursing. She worked her career as a registered nurse for Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital now known as UPMC Horizon.

She was a lifelong member of Lebanon United Presbyterian Church in West Middlesex. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. She loved being "Gram" to her grandchildren and they were the loves of her life.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Colleen (David) Beck of New Castle, with whom she made her home with for the last 12 years; four grandchildren, Kyle Jordon, Brock Allen, David William Jr.,and Mia Nicole Beck; a great grandchild, Kadi; brother, Rich (Jeanie) Heckathorn of Farrell; two sisters, Nancy Myers of Sharon and Carol Moore of Sharpsville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Marc Heckathorn; and two brothers, Wes and Ed Heckathorn.

Per Shirley's request, there will be no calling hours or services.
