Poland- Sennett C. Evans 83, passed away Thursday morning, October 13, at Forum Northside Medical Center due to complications following surgery. His family was at his bed side. He was born June 2, 1922 in Youngstown, the son of Martin and Gwendolyn Jones Evans. He attended Rayen High School and graduated from Struthers High School in 1940. He served 3 years with the Army 8th Air Force during WWII, stationed in England and North Africa. He graduated from Youngstown College in 1950 with a bachelorâa�a��s degree in education and in 1953 from Kent State University with a masterâa�a��s degree in education. Sennett began his teaching career in the Youngstown City School District at Bennett School where he taught the hearing impaired. He then taught at Cleveland School and Princeton Jr. High School. When Paul C. Bunn School opened he taught there until he retired in 1983. Sennett married his high school sweetheart, Jean Hirt, sixty years ago, September 18, 1945. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Mahoning Retired Teacherâa�a��s association and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He had been a daily mall walker since his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Jean; and six children; a son Jack (Irene) of Boardman; a daughter Jean (John) Holleran of Severna Park, MD; a son, Tom of Poland; a daughter, Gwen (Dave) Machala of North Olmsted, OH; a son, Bill (Chris) of Poland; and a son Tim (Barb) of Strongsville, OH. 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Sennett leaves a sister, Linda Cochron of LaBelle, FL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clem Webb; and 4 brothers, Trevor, Bill, Donald, and Martin Evans. Calling hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Services will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Church.
