Scott F. "Bud" Miller

Youngstown-Scott F. "Bud" Miller, 97, died Saturday morning, September 6, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mr. Miller was born August 11, 1917 to Christian R. and Ida Mae Ipe Miller in Youngstown.

He was a 1935 graduate of South High School and was a Master Plumber in the family business of C.R. Miller and Sons Plumbing Company.

Mr. Miller was a charter member of the former Central Christian Church, where he was a deacon and played in the church band. He was a current member of Disciples Christian Church, a 75 year member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local No. 396, American Federation of Musicians #86 where he served on the executive board, Hillman Masonic Lodge #481, and Aut Mori Grotto.

He was a veteran serving in World War II in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. He was a member and officer of Ohio Department of Seabee Veterans and member and officer of Island X8 Vets of Youngstown.

Scott was a musician playing with many dance and concert bands. He also had his own band called the Ray Scott Orchestra. He played in the band while serving in the Navy and also in the Grotto band.

Scott loved bowling actively playing in several local leagues into his 90's. He loved boating, fishing, hunting, and vacationing in Canada.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 65 years, the former Juanita J. Brocious, whom he married on June 22, 1940; his parents; brothers, Christian C. Miller and Merle E. Miller; sisters, Nora Jean Gibboney and Ora Elene Eastlick; and his son, Scott Rodney Miller.

He is survived by his daughters, Diane (Raymond) Matuz of Poland and Lenore (Richard) Banks of Canfield; daughter-in-law, Carole Miller of Mt. Juliet, TN; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 14th at 2 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street, Boardman, where family and friends will be received Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., prior to the service. A Masonic service will be held Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
