Sandra Jean Saxton died peacefully in her sleep in her home on December 9 in Boardman, Ohio at the age of 80.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Larry of 58 years; brother, Alan (Connie) Yudt of Lititz, PA; daughter, Paula (David) Renouf of Canfield, OH; son, Timothy (Gina) Saxton of Boardman, OH; and granddaughters, Brittany Renouf, Anna Saxton, Katie Renouf, Alicia Saxton, Ashley Saxton, and Lyndsay Renouf.
Sandy was born on March 1, 1940 in Sharon, PA to the late Jacob and Elizabeth Yudt. She graduated from Hickory High School in Hermitage, PA in 1958 and continued her education at Slippery Rock State Teachers College with a degree in Education, graduating in 1962. She married Larry Saxton on November 24, 1962. Also in 1962, she began her education career as an English teacher for Hubbard High School. After two years at Hubbard High School, she paused her teaching career to raise her two children. In 1974, she became the librarian at West Blvd Elementary School. She continued in that position until retirement in 2001.
Sandy was known as an avid reader. In addition to her passion for books, she was dedicated to practicing her Christian faith and spent countless hours studying the Bible. She was a very active leader at Boardman United Methodist Church and was named the United Methodist Woman of the Year. After two successful battles with cancer, she often counseled women undergoing similar experiences leading her to be named the Youngstown Valiant Woman of the Year. Competing with her passion for reading and Christianity was spending time with her six granddaughters.
A burial service is scheduled in the Spring with details to be announced at a later time.
