Struthers - Samuel W. Shumaker, 57, of Struthers, OH, suddenly departed this life Monday, October 29. Mr. Shumaker was born August 14, 1950 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, a son of Layne Allen Shumaker and Virginia Hall O'Hara. A graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Shumaker worked as a Building and Construction Instructor for New Castle School of Trades for 18 years. He was a member of the Mahoning-New Castle Lodge F & AM 243 and a 32nd degree Mason of the Valley of New Castle Scottish Rite, the Erie County Shrine Club, a social member of the Casimir Pulaski Club, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also enjoyed playing golf, watching his favorite sports teams on television, and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Shumaker had a passion for teaching, never spoke ill of anyone no matter the circumstances, and his motto was, âa�A"Live life everyday and laugh often.âa�A� Mr. Shumaker leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Amber (John) Aliati of Boyton Beach, FL; a son, Layne (Kelly) Shumaker, with whom he made his home; two sisters, Terry Wigner of Titusville, FL and Heather (Randy) Fratena of Melbourne, FL; three granddaughters, Kailee, Alayna, and Averi Shumaker all of Struthers; one grandson, Giovanni Aliati of Boyton Beach, FL; and two cousins, Jake (Kathy) Hupp and Cathy Hupp both of Struthers, OH. Besides his parents, Mr. Shumaker was preceded in death by his brother, Layne Allen Shumaker and his dear aunt, Jackie Hupp. A memorial service will be held Friday, 6:00 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, OH where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
