Boardman - Samuel Maiorana, 80, of Boardman, died surrounded by his loving family on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center after a serious illness.
Sam was born July 24, 1937 in Youngstown, a son of Vito and Carmel Leone Maiorana.
He attended South High School and in his senior year enlisted in the United States Marine Corp., where he proudly served from November 1954 until November 1957. Sam was honorably discharged and after returning to the Youngstown area received his G.E.D.
Sam was a proud member and union official for Teamster Local 377 for over 37 years, where he retired as a truck driver in 1999. Sam was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
He was a diehard sports fan for the following Ohio sports teams, the Cleveland Indians, Browns, Cavaliers and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Sam was also an avid bowler, golfer and fisherman. Above all, Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, cherishing every moment, celebrating their Italian heritage and traditions.
Sam leaves his wife of over 61 years, the former Rita J. Noday, whom he married August 11, 1956; three children, Elizabeth "Beth" A. (Jack) Maiorana of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, Gary M. (Rosemarie) Maiorana of Columbiana and Michele M. (Jeffrey) Schoonover of Naples, FL; sisters-in-law, Jane Maiorana of Cleveland and Mary Grace (Charles) Wagner of Youngstown; brothers-in-law, Gene (Mary Jane) Noday of Youngstown, Rudy (Barbara) Noday of Canfield, and William "Whitey" Noday of Indialantic, FL; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Anthony) Perry, J. Sam (Jamison Rose) Siverling, Joseph (Cassandra "Cassie") Maiorana, Diane Maiorana, and Samantha and Nicholas Schoonover; four great-grandchildren, Carmela and Salvatore Perry and Luke and Aubrey Maiorana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Maiorana; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Jennie Noday; brothers-in-law, Anthony (Patricia) Noday and Louis (Mary) Noday; and sisters-in-law, Anne (Fred) Otte and Elizabeth Noday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. William Rock, O.P. officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
Friends will be received Thursday prior to the Mass from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at the church.
