Samuel A. Galano, Jr

d. December 16, 2009

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, for Samuel A. Galano, Jr., 78, of Boardman and formerly of New Castle, PA. He passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the Hospice House.

Sam was born August 30, 1931 in Wampum, PA, the son of Samuel A. Galano, Sr. and Maria Calderone Galano. He spent most of his life in New Castle, first working on the railroad and then in the auto business. After retiring, he spent time in Seattle, Washington with his son, Samuel, working in the construction business. Sam then returned to Youngstown working in maintenance, first for the Youngstown School System and then for Stackhouse Land Management.

Sam attended Clen-Moore United Presbyterian Church in New Castle and had been married to the former Margrit Mette for 28 years. He avidly enjoyed working on the mechanics and bodywork of automobiles. He also took great pride in repairing and restoring things so they would "work again." Sam loved music, chording at the piano and singing standards, Italian love songs, gospel music, and good food.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by two sisters, Val Rozzi and Lillian Smilee; and his first wife, Jane Wojtowicz.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Samuel (Molly) Galano of Boardman; two daughters, Cindy Stackhouse of Canfield and Sandy (Eric) Lang of Youngstown; grandsons, Sam Galano and Eric Lang, Jr.; granddaughters, Alexis Stackhouse and Chelsea Tennyson; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Lang. He also leaves his brother, Vincent (Elma) Galano of New Castle; nieces, Cheryl, Kim, and Kristen; nephew, Gary Smilee; and his wife, the former Edith Little.
