Boardman - Ruth C. Thompson, 102, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 17, 2024.
Ruth was born July 29, 1921 in Youngstown, OH, a daughter of the late Alan Leetch and Birdie Ludwick.
She attended The Rayen School in Youngstown and was a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.
Ruth volunteered at Northside Hospital in Youngstown as a "Grey Lady." She was one of the founding members of The Fonderlac Country Club, which became The Lake Club. She was an avid golfer. She made a hole-in-one at the age of 79 and continued golfing until the age of 88. Ruth enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially 500. She loved spending the winters in Florida.
Ruth is survived by her son, James N. Thompson of Watkinsville, GA; two grandchildren, Jennifer L. (John) Haynie of Watkinsville, GA and David J. (Stephanie) Thompson of Walnut Grove, GA; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Baun of Salem, OH and Audrey (Howard) Duvall of Dayton, OH; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and her caregiver, Sylvia.
Besides her father, Alan; her mother, Birdie and stepfather, Robert Laughner raised her; Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Robinson Thompson whom she married on September 4, 1937 and died April 10, 1994; one great-grandson; a stepsister, Eleanor Shaw; and two stepbrothers, Robert Laughner and James Laughner.
Per Ruth's request, private services will be held for her family. There are no calling hours. Interment will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown, Ohio.
Arrangements are being handled by Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring Street in Struthers.
