Ruth Ann Schmid

November 23, 1928 — August 24, 2013

Poland - Ruth Ann Schmid, 84, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday morning, August 24, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Schmid was born November 23, 1928 in Youngstown , a daughter of Peter and Frieda Kreuzwieser Widera.

She was a 1946 graduate of Chaney High School. Ruth was a dedicated and devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Before starting her family, Ruth worked for several years as a legal secretary. After raising her children, she returned to work as a secretary for the Middle East Baptist Conference and later the Ohio Bureau of Employment.

A woman of faith, Ruth was a former member of Evangel Baptist Church and a current member of Old North Church. While at Evangel Baptist Church, she served as a deaconess, was a member of the choir, taught Sunday School, and enjoyed both leading and attending Bible Studies. Ruth was also a member of the Christian Women's Club.

Ruth's hobbies and talents included cross-stitching, knitting, seamstress work, playing the organ and piano, and reading.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edward W. Schmid, whom she married June 29, 1947; two daughters, Loretta (Charles) Taylor-Sabados of Delta, CO and Linda Schmid of Coon Rapids, MN; son, Robert (Joyce) Schmid of Boardman; five grandchildren, Scott (Sarah) Taylor of CO, Jeff (Adrienne) Taylor of CO, Luke (Joanne) Taylor of OR, and Bobby and Katy Schmid of Boardman; four great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Richard, Peter, and Ronald Widera

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Werner Widera.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Old North Church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.

The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Ruth's name to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Uniontown, Ohio 44685 or to the Old North Church Fund, 7105 Herbert Road Canfield, Ohio 44406.
