Vienna - Ruth Ida Jackson, 90, died April 15, 2017 at Sharon Regional Hospital. Ruth was born August 28, 1926 in Struthers.
She was a 1944 Struthers High School graduate, and went on to attend the Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse in 1947. Ruth was a Registered Nurse for Forum Health, Dr. Schneider, Dr. Hong, and also Hospice for 10 years, retiring from nursing in 1997.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of Struthers Parkside Church (formerly known as the Struthers Presbyterian Church), where she was on the board of deacons, member of the choir, and belonged to the Fireside Sunday School Class.
Ruth was a U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps veteran of WW II. She was also a member of the Youngstown Hospital Alumni Association.
Some of her favorite past times were gardening and tending to her flowers at her house.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeanette (Ray) Gollan of Brookfield; one son, James (Susan) Jackson of Niles; five grandchildren, Elliott (Tami) Moadus of Charlotte, NC, Adam (Kate) Gollan of Cortland, Brian (Ashley) Jackson of Niles, Matthew (Sharon) Jackson of West Long Branch, NJ, and Rob (Heather) Gollan of Austintown; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kara, Riley, Colin, Audrey, Remy, and Rory;
one nephew, Tom (Meg) Glines of Boardman; two nieces, Kathy Duffy and Sarah Glines, both of Mt. Gilead; great nephew, Kevin Glines of Boardman; great-niece, Carey (Jeremy) Walters of New Hampshire, and their children, Rebecca and Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Sidney Jackson Jr., whom she married Oct. 25, 1947 , died Feb. 22, 2013; and her mother, Betsy Heasley Cassel.
Services will be held Wednesday at 7PM at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, where family and friends will be received from 5-6:45PM prior to the service.
