Ruth A. (Lawson) Heasley, 98
YOUNGSTOWN - On Aug. 11, 2015, Ruth A. (Lawson) Heasley, 98, went to her heavenly reward, while family were present and being attended by staff members at Vista Center of Boardman.
Ruth was born in Alliance, in Stark County, on Aug. 16, 1916. She was the daughter of Charles E. Lawson and Lottie B. (Maple) Lawson.
Ruth graduated from Alliance High School in 1935. She grew up around Early Hill, where Mabel Hartzell lived. Her work career began at G.C. Murphy's. Ruth then was hired by Dr. James Wolfe, DDS for 13 years as book keeper and dental assistant, until Wolfe retired. She then worked at Alliance Electric as book keeper for 13 years.
She met and fell in love with her husband Harry "Cutty" Heasley. They were married and lived in Struthers, 20 years until his death in 1990.
They were members of the United Presbyterian Church in Struthers and currently was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church. Both Ruth and her husband were very active in Masonic Lodge work, Ruth working her way through the chairs to Worthy Matron of Lamplight Chapter No. 582, Order of the Eastern Star in 1979 to 1980.
Ruth held many offices in the Justice Court No. 26 Order of the Amaranth, being installed as Royal Matron in 1993. She held numerous offices in the Miriam Chapter No. 276, Ruth Shrine No. 64 and Progress Court No. 22. Also, serving on numerous committees and could be counted on to assist with banquets, setting up and tearing down for meetings for many years.
Ruth's hobbies included many years of ceramics, along with spending time with her "Cutty" at Grandview Lodge at Sparrow Lake, Canada making many longtime friends. They also visited North Myrtle Beach for many years.
Ruth loved life to the fullest and loved nature, butterflies, hummingbirds and flowers. She enjoyed eating and shopping at Cracker Barrel and always getting a good bargain at Good Will. She frequently attended Canfield Fair and enjoyed Kentucky Fried Chicken and Longhorn Steak.
Ruth believed in good manners, especially being grateful to anybody that did anything for her whether big or little, she would always say, "Thank you."
Ruth leaves behind her loving and grateful "adopted" family, Perry and Linda Garman of Alliance, along with their children, Michele and Matthew; her faithful friends, Lee and Angie Duncan; her many loving care giving friends at Vista Center of Boardman, and many, many friends that helped her along life's journey.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Charles R. Lawson in 1988; her husband in 1990; and a cousin, Fred Swickard in 1997.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, where the Miriam Chapter will be doing a service at 1 p.m.
Friends may call Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
