Ruth V. Cather

Streetsboro - Ruth V. Cather, 92 of Streetsboro formerly of Struthers, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006 in Bedford Hospital. Mrs. Cather was born November 5, 1914 in Alliance, Ohio, a daughter John R. & Mary A. Grate Gue. She was a 1932 graduate of Struthers High School, and then attended Kent State University, receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She was an Elementary school teacher with the Struthers School System, retiring in 1975 after 21 years. She was a long standing member of the Struthers Music Club; a member of the Struthers Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of its Fireside Class; a member of the Mahoning County Retired Teachers Association; and the Struthers Retired Teaching Association; She also was a member of the Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority. She enjoyed playing the Piano, reading, and embroidering. Mrs. Cather is survived by daughter, Lynne (James) Slater of Cleveland Heights, Oh, Son, Kenneth (Bobbie) Cather, of Poland; Daughter, Jeanne (Dennis) Oliver of Streetsboro, Oh, Sister, Myrtle Leak of Struthers, OH, Granddaughter, Jeanne (Mitchell) Weaver of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Grandson, James (Megan) Slater, Jr. of Bay Village, Oh, Grandson, Kenneth E. Cather of Poland, Oh, Grandson, Justin R. Cather of Akron, Oh, Grandson, Canaan Christ of Kent, Oh, Grandson, Adam Oliver of Kent, Great-Grandmother of Grace Weaver, Ben Slater, Claire Weaver, Molly Slater, Anne Weaver and Christopher Slater. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Bernice Mae Redfern, and by her husband, Marcus Reid Cather, whom she married June 30, 1945. He died on July 10, 1979. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 pm. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, where friends may call from 11:30 to 12:45 pm.
