Rosemarie Yuhas, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, January 24, 2024 at the Hospice of the Valley Hospice House.
Rosemarie was born January 7, 1932 in Hubbard, Ohio, a daughter of Carl and Dorothy Brown Wittenauer.
Raised in Hubbard, Rosemarie graduated from Hubbard High School, Class of 1950, and attended Youngstown State University. She worked as a invoice typist for Westinghouse Electric Company in Sharon, Pennsylvania. On August 8, 1953, Rosemarie married Eugene Yuhas and they made their home in Struthers. Rosemarie happily settled in to her role as a homemaker. Being a wife to Gene and mother to their four children brought Rose great joy.
With her youngest child in kindergarten at Holy Trinity, Rosemarie re-entered the workforce as school secretary for Holy Trinity School until its closing 18 years later. She then worked as a secretary for Struthers City Schools, retiring in 1996 after 25 years of service. After retirement, Rosemarie worked part-time as a substitute secretary.
Rosemarie was an active member of Holy Trinity Church where she served as a reader, piroghy maker, treasurer for both the Altar and Rosary Society and Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. She also served as auditor for the FCSLA, Fraternal Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.
Self-motivated and culturally well rounded, Rosemarie enjoyed reading, solving jigsaw puzzles, listening to music of all genres, watching movies, and attending plays locally, in New York, or Toronto. Rosemarie, with Gene, loved to travel the United States and abroad, experiencing the riches and cultures of other countries. Together, Rosemarie and Gene passed on their love of traveling to their children and grandchildren. In later years, they enjoyed their annual family vacations to the Outer Banks.
Being one of eight children, Rosemarie grew up cherishing her family and the memories of being raised on a berry farm. As a wife and mother, Rosemarie centered herself around family, providing them with a warm and loving home, nourishing home cooked dinners, Slovak treats, sound moral values, and set the example to pursue knowledge, curiosity, and adventure. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother whose legacy of love will live on in her family.
Rosemarie leaves her husband of over 70 years, Gene Yuhas of Struthers; two daughters, Elizabeth (Steven) Budd of Dayton, Ohio and Roberta "Bobbi Jo" (Tim) McCoy of New Middletown, Ohio; one son, Kevin (Antoinette) Yuhas of London, Ohio; daughter-in-law, (Maureen) Yuhas of Kettering, Ohio; one sister, Joan Clark of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Justin and Sarah Budd, Samantha (Matthew) Parris, Daniel and Katie Yuhas, and Matthew McCoy; and one great-grandchild, Emma June Parris.
Rosemarie was preceded in death by her son, Atty. Steven Yuhas; two sisters, Margaret Goterba and Martha Tygart; four brothers, Edward, Charles, Francis "Jerry," and James Wittenauer.
