Rosemarie Agresta passed away September 30 at the Woodlands Nursing Home in Poland, following a two-year illness.

Rosemarie was born May 18, 1949, in Youngstown the daughter of Natale and Antoinette (Siciliano) Agresta.

She was a lifetime resident of Struthers and a 1967 graduate of Struthers High School. She later graduated from Youngstown State University and worked in several lines of employment. In the past, she was a teacher in the Headstart program and taught English as a second language. She also held licensure in social work.

"Rosie," as she was affectionately called by those who loved her and were close to her, was a loving and caring person who often placed needs and welfare of others above her own. Most of her life was spent caring for her father and brother Anthony with whom she made her home. She often donated her time and resources to many charities.

Rosemarie enjoyed spending time with her family. She liked crossword puzzles, listening to music and being involved in politics. She was a strong member of the Democrat party and was frequently involved in local and presidential campaigns. She had a talent for speech writing and was petitioned by several community organizations to prepare oratory presentations for their speakers.

Rosemarie was extremely proud of her Italian heritage. She belonged to a number of Italian organizations working to advance its culture.

Rosemarie leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Dr. Frank (Georgeann) Agresta of Poland; nieces Antoinette Agresta of California and Gabrielle Agresta of Boardman. Other family members include cousins Mary Jo (Edward) Rios and Eleanor Cusick of New Springfield, as well as relatives in New York and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Friends and family may call Friday from 10:00AM-12:45PM at the funeral home.

The Agresta family would like to express its sincerest gratitude to all the Hospice of the Valley and Woodlands personnel with whom Rosie's care was entrusted during her illness.
