Lowellville - Rose L. "Sadie" Ziccardo, 89, of Lowellville, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Ziccardo was born October 10, 1918 in Keyser, West Virginia, a daughter of Guiseppe and Grazia Marrara Alfano. She was a homemaker and had worked for Strouss Hershberg Department Store as a sales clerk. Mrs. Ziccardo was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Struthers, St. Anthony's Women's Auxiliary, and the Lowellville Ladies Senior Citizens Club. Her husband, Anthony Ziccardo, whom she married January 15, 1938, died July 31, 2002. She leaves two daughters, Madalena (fiancé Jim Cutre) Cavanaugh of Medina and Sharon (Richard) Janci of Lowellville; a sister, Marie DeSantis of Poland; three brothers, Joseph (Eleanor) Alfano of Boardman, Philip (Lynn) Alfano of Lowellville, and William (Mary) Alfano of New Rochelle, NY; three grandsons, Edward (Leslie) Cavanaugh of Grafton, Jeff (Sue) Carducci of Aliso Verjo, CA, and Mark Cavanaugh of Grafton; five granddaughters, Denise (Jerry) Fosco of Poland, Renee (Scott) Hopkins of Warrenton, VA, Kim (Joe) Yurich of Poland, Toni (Jerry) Tuscano of Poland, and Shanna (fiancé Tim Wirtz) Janci of Struthers; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; former son-in-law, Augie Carducci; and her special little friend, Chloe. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Ziccardo was preceded in death by an infant sister; and her step- mother, Carmel Alfano. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville. Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery. Friends will be received Sunday from 5-8 p.m. and Monday from 9:15-9:45 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, where a prayer service will be held Monday at 9:45 a.m. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Hospice of the Valley and the staff of floor 3 West of St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boardman.
