Rose M. Macejko

Struthers - Rose M. Macejko, 97, died Saturday morning, February 20, 2016 at Park Vista Retirement Center.

Miss Macejko was born September 2, 1918 in New Salem, PA, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Hanzely Macejko.

Rose was a graduate of Struthers High School and Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. During World War II, Rose began working at her family's gas station, Macejko Brothers, while her brothers were serving overseas and helped with the business throughout her life. She spent the majority of her career working as a children's librarian for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, Struthers Branch.

She was a longtime member of Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. At the church, Rose was a member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Slovak Cultural Association and the Jednota Branch #159.

Her interests included traveling, cooking, and taking care of her family.

Rose is survived by nieces and nephews, Susan T. (Ed Gasior) Mirich of Struthers, Peter T. (Beverly) Vargo of FL, Stephen P. Vargo of Jefferson, Elizabeth (Gary) Allgood of Poland, and Thomas E. Vargo of Poland; and great nieces and nephews, Coleen (Jack) Kramer of Las Vegas, Edward Gasior of Struthers, Michael Vargo of Las Vegas, Phillip Vargo of Lyndhurst, and Thomas Vargo of Austintown.

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Vargo; and five brothers, Joseph, Daniel, Steve, Edward, and Atty. Theodore Macejko; and niece, Stephanie Vargo.

A prayer service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard Gaeta officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the prayer service.
