Rosario "Ross" Marando

Struthers - Rosario "Ross" Marando, 88, of Struthers, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Assumption Village. Mr. Marando was born October 21, 1920 in Plati Reggio, Calabria, Italy, a son of Michael and Anna Catanzarite Marando. He came to the United States and to this area in 1949. Before coming to the United States, he served in the Italian Army during World War II, where he was a P.O.W. Mr. Marando worked for the Schwebel Bakery for 19 years. He was a member of the Local 19 Bakers Union, where he was a former shop steward and on the Executive Board of Retirees. Mr. Marando was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4224 in Struthers and St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. His wife, the former Frances Agresta, whom he married January 7, 1950, died December 6, 2003. He leaves his three sons, Michael (Mary Jo) Marando of Poland, Nat (Melodie) Marando of Hubbard, and Frank Marando of Struthers; and nine grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Marando. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers at and 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Peters officiating.
