Ronald J. Evans, 84
Morganton, NC - Ronald J. Evans, 84 of Morganton, North Carolina, formerly of Arrel Road in Poland, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020 at his residence with his grandson Steven and his wife Amy by his side.
Ron was born April 21, 1935 in Farrell, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Levita (Suttle) Evans. He attended Campbell Memorial High School before enlisted in the U.S. Army.
After his time in the Army, Ron returned to the Youngstown area and worked as a overhead crane operator for Republic Steel and later for LTV in Warren for 44 years before retiring. Ron was also a part-time Police Officer for Lowellville Police Department and a Reserved Deputy for the Mahoning County Sheriff Department.
Ron attended Struthers Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Allen Lodge #276 F & AM and a 32nd degree mason Scottish Rite, He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking, and had a great sense of humor.
Ron is survived by a son, Ronald J. (Jane) Evans of Warren; his daughter-in-law, Teresa Evans of Morganton, NC; a brother, Paul Evans of Campbell; two sisters, Debby Evans of Mentor, OH, and Gloria Cuddy of Hudson, MA; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Stella Evans; his wife of 51 years, the former Betty J. Dowdy whom he married on March 24, 1956 and died on July 5, 2007; two sons, Stephen Evans, and Michael Evans; a brother, Gary Evans and a sister, Carole Maine.
Private graveside service were held at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown. There are no calling hours.
The family would like to thank Amy Evans for the love, care and support that she gave to Ronald during this time.
Arrangements are being handled by Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring Street in Struthers.
