Poland - Rocco M. Romeo, 82, of Poland, died Wednesday afternoon, December 2, 2015, at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Rocco, affectionately known as rocky, was born February 8, 1933 in Reggio, Calabria, Italy, a son of Frank and Maria Pisto Romeo. He was raised in Italy and at the age of 15, he and his family came to the United States. He lived in New York and later Pennsylvania until residing in the Youngstown area. He raised his family in Poland Township.
He was a pipe layer for Ohio Laborers for many years. He also was a bartender for his brother, Dominic's restaurant, the Star Light Cafe in Poland. Rocky loved working and when he was not, he enjoyed spending time growing fresh vegetables and flowers in his gardens.
His wife of over 52 years, the former Virginia Morrison, whom he married November 19, 1961 died September 8, 2014. He leaves two daughters, Donna (Joseph "JoJo") Cefalde of Houston, TX, and Maria (John) Lissi of Youngstown: and one brother, Bruno Romeo of Italy.
Besides his parents and wife, Rocky was preceded in death by one sister, Josephine Varacalli; one brother Dominic Romeo; and a granddaughter, Angela Cefalde.
A prayer service will be held Monday, 9:30 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville at 10:00 AM with Fr. John Jerek officiating. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
