Rocco J. Monaco, 82, died April 21, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Rocco was born March 14, 1936 in Youngstown, a son of Giovanni "John" and Rose Gelonese Monaco.
He was very proud to be a piercer plugger at Youngstown Sheet and Tube (LTV) for 32 years. Rocco was a local musician and founder of the Rocco Monaco Band, where he played at many weddings and festivals for over 60 years.
He was a member of Youngstown Morre League and Musician Union. Rocco was also a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church.
He is survived by his wife the former, Antoinette "G.G." Marafiote, whom he married June 9, 1956; three children, Rosemary (Eric) Gozur of Rock Hill, SC, John Monaco of Boardman, and Janine (Jim) Valerio of Boardman; one sister, Rose (John) Gaffney of Youngstown; five grandchildren, Eric Justin (Jodi) Gozur, Vincent (Meghan) Valerio, Ashley (Brit) Jordan, Julien Gozur, and Dominic Valerio; and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Rocco was preceded in death by two sisters, Philomena Marafiote and Catherine Calzo; and two brothers, Frank and Bruno Monaco.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Thursday at 11:00AM.
