Roberta A. Pool Johnson

Roberta Johnson died peacefully July 4 at Crandall Medical Center, Sebring Ohio. Born in October 1926, she was the daughter of Robert and Edith (McIlvain) Pool. She was a graduate of Boardman High School, attended University of Cincinnati and graduated from Youngstown State University. She did graduate work at OSU and University of Indiana. She taught elementary and middle school Art in New Wilmington, PA, schools and then Boardman Schools for 25 years. She was very active in her church, First Presbyterian, as an Elder, singing in the choir and leading the craft group. She was also a member of the Mahoning Valley Art Teachers Association, Sweet Adelines, the former Youngstown Symphony Chorus, the Youngstown Playhouse, and Red Hats. She served on the boards of the Ballet Guild and Planned Parenthood. In all the organizations she was in there with her paintbrush and scissors making posters, newsletter headings or decorations. Roberta loved travel. She managed to visit much of the world to bring new techniques to her students and inspire the love of travel in her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, David (Lisa) Johnson of Pekin, IL, and Richard (Susan) Johnson of New Middletown, her sister, Suzanne Pool Anzellotti (Jim) Ray of Poland and her sister-in-law, Glenna Whinnery Pool of Aurora. She leaves Grandchildren, Amy (Jim) Hess of Normal, IL, Erik (Kim) Johnson of Hamilton, Oh, Kristen (Aaron) Pertner of Dayton, Sgt. Scott (Sara) Johnson of Washington DC, Sara, Katie and Hannah Cottingham of Pekin, IL, and Washington DC. She also leaves 7 great-grandchildren, Alex and Ella Hess, Ricky Johnson, Henry Pertner, Addison, Michael and Matthew Johnson, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David W. Johnson whom she married in 1949 died in 1967, her sister Bettie Alleman, and brother Leroy (Bud) Pool.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday August 12 at 4:30 at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Avenue, Youngstown Ohio. Friends may visit before and after the service.
