Poland - Robert Irwin Zedaker, Jr., 71, of Poland, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 22, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio, Bob was a loving son of Robert and Jeannette Kanengeiser Zedaker.
A life-long resident of Poland, Bob was a 1960 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and a 1966 graduate of the Youngstown University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
A veteran of the United States Army, Bob served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a Sp. 5 with the 7th Squadron of 1st Air Cavalry "Blackhawks", Headquarters Company, Vinh Long, Vietnam.
Bob was co-owner and President of Poland Concrete Products, Inc. which was founded in 1947 by his grandfather and father.
He was a lifelong member of the Poland Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon, and on many committees, most recently the Administration Committee.
Throughout his life, Bob dedicated his time and talents to a number of charitable organizations. He was primarily involved with the Boy Scouts of America. Bob was most proud of his service as Poland's Troop 44 Scoutmaster for more than 20 years. In scouting, he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award (for service), the 2012 District Award of Merit, and was both a member of the Greater Western Reserve Council's Executive Committee and a "Vigil Member" of the Order of the Arrow. He was the village representative to the Western Reserve Joint Fire District Board. He served as Chairman of the Poland Forest Board and as a member of the Poland Forest Foundation Board. He was Past-President of both the local chapter of Gyro International and the Poland Swim Club. He and Elinor were longtime members of the Friends of Scouting Committee, The Tuesday Evening Dancing Club, The Dance Club, the Youngstown Symphony Society, and the Butler Institute of American Art. Bob also served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman for many years.
Bob was a Master Mason of Poland Blue Lodge 766, and a 32nd degree Mason of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Youngstown, and the Shriners International.
He had many hobbies, including scuba diving (Open Water Certified), skiing, sailing, white water rafting, rock climbing and rappelling (Certified Climb Instructor). His other interests included travel and new adventures. Bob was an honorable and amazing man whose family was center most in his life so taught by two centuries of family roots in this valley.
Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Elinor Snyder, whom he married September 10, 1966; two sons, Robert (Angela) Zedaker III and John Campbell Zedaker II of Poland; two grandchildren, Robert "Robin" Zedaker IV and Alexander "Alex" Zedaker; one brother, David "Dusty" (Patricia) Zedaker of Poland; two sisters, Jeannette (Hugh) Braham of Poland and Tribbey (Richard) Nelson of New Springfield; and a sister-in-law, Colene Zedaker of New Springfield. He also had many loving members of his extended family: mother-in-law, Susan Snyder of Canfield, sisters-in-law, Beckie (Larry) Binder of Madison and Heidi Snyder of Canfield, and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Snyder of Dayton. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by one brother, Philip McClure Zedaker, mother-in-law, Bonnie (Elkins) Snyder, and father-in-law, Arthur D. Snyder.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, 11:00 AM at the Poland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. David Gilbert officiating.
Friends will be received Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the church.
