Struthers - Robert J. Yash, 55, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 1, 2016.

Robert was born March 18, 1961 in Youngstown, a son of the late Albert and Helen Zentko Yash.

A lifelong resident of Struthers, he was a 1979 graduate of Struthers High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1979 until his honorable discharge in 1983. Upon his discharge, he returned to Struthers and was employed as a custodian for the Struthers City Schools for 26 years, where he was still currently employed.

In his free time, he enjoyed listening to Tom Hamilton announcing the Cleveland Indians game on the radio, fishing, and helping family and friends with their home projects.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Jo Sylvester, whom he married September 15, 1984; two children, David Yash of Poland and Dayna (Sam Day) Yash of Cleveland; three sisters, Cathie (Bob DeFelice) Yash of Boardman, Carol (George) Buchenic of Austintown, and Cindy (Andy) Berchik of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; two brothers, Albert "Bert" (Cheri) Yash of Ashtabula and Kenneth (Helaine) Yash of North Jackson; mother-in-law, Lucille Yarnell of Lowellville; father-in-law, Harold Sylvester of Salem; sister-in-law, Linda (Paul) Rossi of Liberty; brothers-in-law, Michael (Kathy) Sylvester of Liberty, Tony Sylvester of Hubbard, and John Sylvester of Mineral Ridge; godson, Thomas Yash of North Jackson; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his dachshund, Bello.

A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Celuch officiating.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
