POLAND - Robert L. Woolford, 98, of Poland died Friday afternoon August 24, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Mr. Woolford was born April 26, 1920 in Youngstown, a son of Ira and Wilda (McCormick) Woolford and had been a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1938 graduate of South High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Metalurgy from Youngstown State University. Mr. Woolford started his career at Youngstown Sheet & Tube as a chemist, working there for twelve years. He then worked for Metal Carbides Corporation as chief chemist, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Woolford was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II. Bob was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, member and past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Ruth Shrine No. 64 of Poland and served as the group's past Watchman of Shepherds, member of Jobe's Daughters, and a charter member of the Poland Lodge F&AM No. 766, where he served as their secretary for 15 years.
His wife, the former Marian J. Allshouse, whom he married February 24, 1943, died February 20, 2011. Mr. Woolford is survived by his son, Richard (Marybeth Brennen) Woolford of Poland; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Matthew Woolford.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Woolford.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 28, 2018 at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland with Pastor's Greg Calko and Dawan Buie. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Ruth Shrine No. 64 will conduct a service at 7:45 p.m.
