Austintown - Robert M. Wilson, 75, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
Mr. Wilson was born June 9, 1939 in Youngstown, the son of Robert M. Wilson and Catherine McCormick Wilson.
He attended Ursuline High School before joining the United States Marine Corps. in 1956 where he earned his high school diploma. While in the Marines Bob served aboard the USS North Hampton as a military policeman. After his meritorious service with the Marine Corps., Bob worked at Western Auto repair in the Mahoning Plaza and then in 1964 started at Hy-Way Heat Systems Incorporated as a Millwright where he worked until the plant closed.
After retiring Bob dedicated his life to community service, working for various organizations including the Boy Scouts of America with which he had over a 60 year affiliation with service as Scout leader for multiple troops including the disabled troop, on the council, and volunteering his time at Camp Stambaugh in Canfield both working with the kids and to maintain the camp. Bob also served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he was recently promoted to the rank of Flotilla Commander. He was also a member of the Marine Corps. League, he volunteered his time for the special Olympics, and was on the Canfield Fair Junior Fair Board.
Bob was a very generous person, who had dedicated his life to helping others. He raised two sons, Mike and Pat, to which he was a caring father, soccer and football coach, scout leader and hero. However, numerous people were proud to call Bob their surrogate father as well.
Bob could fix just about anything and loved to learn and teach new knots; Bob prided himself for being able to tie over 1000 different knots.
Bob is survived by wife, Patricia Wilson of Austintown; sons Michael R. Wilson of Little Rock, Arkansas and Patrick C. Wilson of Chicago, Il; grandchildren Emily, Adam, Lilia, and Adria, plus sisters Joan M. Mauerman, Mary Noreen Gant; and brother James D. Wilson of Boardman.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by one sister, Delores M. Cummings.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6:00PM at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman.
Friends and family will be received Thursday from 4:00-5:45 at the funeral home.
