Poland - Robert J. West, Sr. "Bob," 83, left this life for a greater life in Heaven on May 2, 2014.
Robert was a kind, gentle man who always put others first. He never spoke an unkind word, always concerned about the feelings of others.
He had a great talent for playing the guitar and loved country music, especially George Jones. He sang with his family in church many times and wrote several songs. Robert even wrote a song for his loving wife, the former Barbara Cantrell, whom he married January 2, 1953. Even after 61 years of marriage, he still called her the love of his life.
Robert worked at Republic Steel until 1971, and he then started his own business "Bob's TV Service" until he retired.
Robert's other passions were football, baseball, and working on cars. Most important to him was spending time with his family. He was never happier than when his kids, grandchildren, and wife were together.
Robert was born to Charles and Mattie (Burnett) West in Chatsworth, GA on January 26, 1931, one of 12 children.
Besides his wife, Barbara, he leaves a daughter, Michele (West) Best of Poland; granddaughter, Richele Best of Champion; grandson, Robert J. West, III of Struthers; brother, Bill West of Chatsworth, GA; son-in-law, John Lindsay of Boardman; daughter-in-law, Angel Commisso-West of Lowellville; and grandson, Dominick Commisso of Lowellville.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen (West) Lindsay; son, Robert J. West, Jr.; brothers, Edgar, Charlie, Glen, and Gene; sisters, Ethel, Edna, Bessie, Lizzie, Ruby, and infant Bonnie Mae.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, May 13th at 7 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 56 Water Street., Poland. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
There will never be another man like Robert and he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
