Robert L. Wagmiller, 73, died Friday evening, October 14, 2016 at St. Joseph Health Center, surrounded by his family.
Robert was born August 15, 1943 in Salem, a son of the late Fred and Margaret L. Stryfeller Wagmiller. Robert was affectionately known as "Bob" and "Wags" to his family and friends.
Raised in Salem, Bob was a 1961 graduate of Salem High School. He attended Ohio State University, where he studied Wholesale Management. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration and a degree in accounting from Youngstown State University. While at YSU, he was the recipient of the National Association of Accountants Academic Award.
Bob began his career with Hill, Barth, and King, Inc., while studying at YSU. He spent over thirty five years at Hill, Barth, and King, where he served as past partner, Chairman of the Executive Committee, and Senior Advisor for the firm. He also served as Director of First Place Bank and First Place Holding Company.
Throughout the years, Bob gave generously of his time and talents to many organizations in the area. He served as a past treasurer and board member to the Salvation Army, a past chairman to the United Way Campaign, past president of the Boardman Civic Association, past president of the Neil Kennedy Recovery Center, past board member of Fellow Riverside Gardens and a graduate of Leadership Mahoning Valley and member of the Leadership Club. He was also a member and past president of the Four Square Club, member and past president of the Youngstown Club and member of the Youngstown Country Club.
Over the years, Bob enjoyed traveling. In the early years, he traveled by motor home and later, by car, by air, and by water. He and Marilyn traveled extensively throughout the world, appreciating the riches and cultures of other countries. They were also snow birds, migrating to Sarasota, Fl. every winter and most recently spent time making a second home there.
Travel was not Bob's only love. He loved food, was a talented cook, and enjoyed his time in the kitchen. Bob also loved a good bottle of wine and entertaining in the home that he and Marilyn lovingly built together.
Bob was a devoted husband, dedicated father, loving grandfather and a loyal friend. He was always there to lend an ear, give sound advise, and of course, tell an off color joke or two. Bob, Wags, Grandpa, Papa will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob leaves his wife, the former Marilyn Mantle, whom he married June 30, 1991; three steps-sons, Robert (Gina ) Rumberg of Liberty, John (Kelly) Rumberg, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, and Steven (Orly) Rumberg of Loveland; seven grandchildren, Robert and Frederick "Fritz" Rumberg, John "Trey" the III, Todd, and Carl Rumberg, and Olam and Eliana Rumberg; two sisters, Marge (Albert) Schnorrenberg and Janet (Robert) Bezon, both of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
