Youngstown - Robert D. "R.D." Thomas, 78 of Youngstown, died Friday, December 19, 2009 at his residence with his wife and children at his side.
Mr. Thomas was born January 25, 1931 in Breezewood, PA, a son of Charles and Fannie Minch Thomas.
He was a veteran of the Unites States Airforce, were he served in Newfoundland, California. Mr. Thomas worked Trainman for Conrail for 40 years, retiring in 1995.
He leaves wife of 54 years, the former Rachel Byers, whom he marred March 26, 1955 in Cumberland Maryland, one daughter, Jackie (William) Burris of Struthers two sons, Larry Thomas of Youngstown and Mark "Animal" (Shannon) Thomas of Youngstown, four grandchildren, Ellie Burris, Billy Burris, Robert John (R.J.) Thomas, Kylie J. Thomas; and one brother Fred Thomas of Everett, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Katherine Fake, Ben Thomas, Roy Thomas, Mable Smith, Ruth Weyent, and Helen Crawford.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be private.
