Boardman-Robert Lee Stratton, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, February 14, 2015.
Robert was born on January 9, 1932 in Salem, Ohio, the son of Herman and Doris Cobbs Stratton.
He graduated from Salem High School in 1950 and attended Salem Trade School for three years, taking Industrial Mechanical Engineering. Working in engineering for 33 years, Bob started his career at Deming Pump in Salem as an inspector and foreman from 1952 to 1958.
In 1960, he was employed as a Draftsman for Lincoln Cylinder in Salem until taking the position of Assistant Chief Draftsman at Parker Hannifan in 1964. He later worked for two years for Abbey ETNA in Youngstown as a Design and Service Engineer and for Machine Design Service as a Mechanical Layout Draftsman from 1969 to 1981. Bob also worked for Wean United and for East Ohio Machinery, which contracted him out to many other companies. He was a Layout and Design Engineer with both companies. Bob also enjoyed his job as a designer and inspector of modular homes and was self-employed in general home repairs throughout his whole working career.
After retirement from the engineering field, Bob worked part time at Sears in the Tool Department at the Southern Park Mall. His favorite pastime was carpentry and he loved helping his family and friends with repair projects. He was affectionately known as "Bob the Builder."
Bob served eight years in the United States Naval Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1959.
He was an active member at Evangel Baptist Church for 36 years, where he served as a deacon and custodian. For the past 14 years, he has been involved at Bethel Friends Church in Poland.
Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who has touched many lives and will be missed by all.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, the former Bassha Lee Keen; one daughter, Pamela Lynne (John) Lenz of West Middlesex, PA; two sons, Dale Robert Stratton of Poland and Bert Walter (Phyllis) Stratton of Canfield; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild to cherish his memory. He is also survived by a brother, David (Marsine) Stratton of Salem and two sisters, Grace Stratton of Missouri and Marilyn Tisci of Florida.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Ehinger.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Friends Church with Pastor Bobby Murphy officiating. Family and friends will be received on Saturday one hour prior to the memorial service.
