Robert E. Shallenberger, 93, passed peacefully at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Boardman, Ohio on Monday, October 8, 2018. Robert ‘Bob’ was born June 3, 1925 to Carl V. and Flossie (Bactell) Shallenberger. Bob grew up on the east side of Youngstown graduating from East High School in 1944. He went onto serve in the Navy during World War II. After his return, he married Marian M. Schultz on October 1, 1948 in the Chapel of Friendly Bells at Trinity United Methodist Church. The couple settled in Liberty Township. During his career, Bob worked as a Mechanical Designer at Republic Steel.
After his retirement, Bob and Marian relocated to Columbiana, Ohio; and Bob enjoyed driving cars for a few dealerships, most recently Columbiana Ford. Bob was a member of the Youngstown Shrine Club for several years. He was also a member of the Allen Lodge #276 F&AM Masonic Lodge and volunteered at Brother Allen’s Inn at the Shaker Woods Festival in North Lima for a number of years. Prior to his wife’s death, Bob was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leetonia.
Bob leaves a nephew, Mark (Cindy) of Cortland, three great-nephews, Brian (Anne) of Ohio, Scott (Bethany) of North Carolina, and Kevin (Callie) of Virginia; and a niece, Carolyn Albert, of Berea.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Marian, his parents, and brothers, Vinton and Kenneth. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, with calling hours from 10 to 11 a.m.
