Robert Edward Rushton

POLAND - Robert E. Rushton, 84, passed away Monday morning, Aug. 19, 2019, at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center.
Mr. Rushton was born May 18, 1935, in East Liverpool, a son of Joseph and Lydia Meeson Rushton.
Raised in East Liverpool, Bob was a 1953 graduate of East Liverpool High School. After graduation, he moved to the Youngstown area and was employed as a welder and blacksmith for Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. In 1958, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged in 1960. Bob continued to work for YS&T and later Crucible Steel in Pittsburgh as a metallurgical researcher, scanning steel for flaws, and sampling quality of air. In 1992, he retired after 34 years of service.
A proud Army veteran, Bob was a member of the Struthers VFW Post No. 3538. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and served on several leagues including the YS&T Supervisory League. A lover of the outdoors, Bob enjoyed working in his yard, cutting his grass and his numerous fishing trips to the many lakes in Canada. A handy man at heart, Bob was always looking to repair something, including cars. He especially loved his 1957 Chevy with a corvette engine.
His wife, the former Barbara A. Rushton, whom he married Aug. 4, 1957, died Feb. 12, 2014.
Bob leaves two daughters, Lisa A. Bell of Strongsville and Susan (Albert) Sciulli of Poland and four grandchildren, Kayleigh Sciulli, Roman Bell, Kara Sciulli, and Morgan Bell.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth A. Rushton; and his brother, Fr. Joseph William Rushton.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received Thursday prior to the service from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
