Lowellville - Robert " Slim" L. Rodgers Jr., died early Wednesday morning, September 4, 2013 at St. Elizabeth's Health Center.
Robert, affectionately known as "Slim," was born July 7, 1945 in Titusville, PA, a son of Robert and Laura Heath Rodgers.
He attended Mount Jackson High School in Mount Jackson, PA, where he began working at Reliable Luggage. Robert later worked in maintenance, beginning with Penn Central, then Conrail, and retiring from Norfolk and Southern Railroad after 28 years of service.
Robert loved to go camping with his family, fishing, and cooking over an open fire. He enjoyed and was famously known for his special breakfast that he made for his entire family over the open fire. Robert was a social member of the Struthers VFW #3538 and always attended the Lowellville car show.
Robert is survived by his wife, the former Tina Garrett, whom he married June 12,1982; one son, Robert (Phyllis) Rodgers of Hampton, VA.; two sisters, Shirley Baron of Bedford, VA. and Leona Smith of Townville, PA; four brothers, David (Betty) Rodgers of Edinburg, PA., John (Dawanha) Rodgers of Guys Mills, PA., Gary (Gloria) Rodgers of Edinburg, PA., and Harlin (Peggy) Rodgers of New Castle, PA; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Rodgers Sr.; mother, Laura Rodgers McCance; step-father, Chester F. McCance Jr.; and one sister, Barbara Ann Rodgers.
Slim's wishes were not to have any services or calling hours.
