Lowellville - Robert E. Renninger, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, at his daughter's home surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born November 7, 1948 in Youngstown, OH, a son of the late Robert and Mary Thacik Renninger.
He attended Boardman High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during peacetime. A proud veteran and patriotic, Robert continued serving his country as an active member of the American Legion Post No. 247 in Lowellville.
Robert worked for Republic Steel and later for LTV Steel for over 30 years before retiring. He did not stay retired for long before going to work for Holy Family Parish and Calvary Baptist Church in the custodian department for several years.
Robert was a member of Holy Family Parish in Poland, where he served as an Eucharistic Minister, a church usher, taught CCD with his granddaughter Tierra, and was a member of the Third Source Committee.
Devoted to his faith and family, he found immense joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In his free time, Robert enjoyed attending car shows, driving his 1939 Chevy, fishing, and camping.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Michelle M. Shorter of Boardman, OH; three grandchildren, Tierra S. (Andrew) Lumpp of Toledo, OH, Kaitlyn J. Shorter of Boardman, OH, and Nicholas H. Shorter of Boardman, OH; a great-granddaughter, Briella R. Lumpp; two cousins, Carol Gabriel of St. Augustine, FL, and Lisa Delisio of Boardman, OH.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, the former Roberta Norberg, whom he married on June 25, 1973, on August 1, 2015; and his stepmother, Marge Renninger.
Family and friends may call on Monday, July 8, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 244 McGill Street, Lowellville. There will be a prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road in Poland with Fr. Martin Celuch, JCL officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery with military honors.
