Robert Glenn Poor

June 5, 1926 — March 31, 2011

New Middletown - Robert Glenn Poor, 84, of New Middletown, died early Thursday morning at his residence.

Robert was born June 5, 1926 in Shawnee, OK, a son of Robert and Pearl Cumby Poor.

A 1944 graduate of Browns High School in Browns, Illinois, Robert enlisted in the United States Army and served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict

In 1952, after being honorably discharged from the Army, Robert received a B.A. at Louisiana Baptist College in Pineville, LA, and then attended the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and received his Master of Divinity. For over 20 years he served as minister of the Kennedy Drive Baptist Church, in Moline, IL, and after retirement served as an interim pastor for numerous churches.

Robert came to this area 7 years ago and was a member of the Cornersburg Baptist Church in Cornersburg. In Moline, he was a member of the Bend of the River Barbershop Chorus.

Robert leaves his wife of 65 years, the former Faith Dunlap whom he married January 11, 1946; one son, Gregory Poor of New Middletown; one daughter, Janice (Pastor Ron) Royalty of Struthers; seven grandchildren, Adam (AnneRose) Poor, Melissa (Tim) Bonney, Joel (Deena) Royalty, Jason (Melody) Royalty, Joshua Royalty, Rebekah (Bret) Wiley and Dian (Chris) Stivers; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard C. Poor and Edward B Poor.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 PM at the Gospel Baptist Church in Poland with Pastors Ron Royalty and Randy Langham officiating. Friends may call Monday from 5-7 PM, and Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at the church.

Arrangements are by Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.
